Today I’m back with another blog post, firstly, I’d like to apologise for the lack of two consecutive blog posts, over the weekend I went home from university and forgot my laptop which was a bummer! and I just wanted to spend some time with my family also its coming up to exam season and submission date at university so I’ve been trying to concentrate on these to stop myself from having a mental breakdown ahaha, so I’d just like to say i’m sorry but i’m now going to get back into the swing of things!! So today, I am back with another beauty/health related post and it is all about how to feel healthier and to be happy in your own body, so, recently I’ve been having some self esteem so I’ve made some life style changes over the past 2 weeks and I’ve really seen an improvement in how I feel mentally and physically so in the blog post I an going to be giving you some tips and changes I’ve made which have really made an improvement.
Without all that rambling aside, let’s get straight into the post, I hope you enjoy.
1. Get more sleep at night-
So I’m one for not getting enough sleep at night and staying up till 2 am watching some show on Netflix and then having to wake up at 8 am and being absolutely shattered, so now I’ve been trying to get at least 8 hours of sleep each night which has improved my happiness so much as I wake up feeling so refreshed and energetic and ready for the day. The easiest way I found to monitor how much sleep I am actually getting each night is that I made a routine each day to go to bed the same time and to wake up at the same time. So on nights where I have a 9 am lecture I will roughly go to sleep at around 11 pm and then wake up at 8 am, giving me 9 hours of sleep which gives me so much energy and helps me so much when going to lectures and improves my concentration. On the weekend/days off, I will go to sleep roughly around 12 am and then wake up at around 9 am, I love to wake up particularly early because this is where I have most energy and motivation to do stuff so I will firstly get all the boring stuff out the way and do all my work and then sometimes if I have nothing to do, I will do some blog writing, in the morning is where I tend to get most of my creativity from and I have way more idea’s for blog posts when doing this. I love having my curtains open as soon as I get up out of bed because it lets all the light into the room making the room look awake and it just makes me feel so much calmer and happier and ready for the day.
2. Eat healthier and cut out the junk food-
I am one of those people who would rather choose to have a pizza over fruit and vegetables any day but I’ve been trying to fix this habit over the past few weeks and I can really see an improvement in my health from doing this. I now try to have my 5 a day because this is really important for our health and I have cut down a lot of the junk food because it didn’t make my body feel that great even if it did taste great. Now, I will grab for an apple, watermelon and grapes because these are my favourites and they feel more refreshing compared to other fruits. Most mornings I love to have lemon water, not only is it really good for you because it increases your metabolism it also tastes so good!!! I tend to have this in the morning because it kick starts my day and leaves my feeling refreshed and makes my body feel so much healthier!! I will use an app called “Lose it!” to track my food intake which is really good because it shows how much calories you have eaten in a day and all the nutrients the food I’ve eaten has given me (you shouldn’t count your calories you should just listen to your body when you are hungry as this will help to feel a lot more healthier In the long run)
3. Drink loads of water
I know this may seem obvious, but make sure to drink loads of water, this is so important for your body and your mind. I am one of those people who can go a day only having one glass of water which sounds really bad, but it’s true, but now, I’ve kicked my butt into gear and I try to drink at-least 1 litre and a half a day and I monitor this on an app called “my water” and you can put how much water you have had daily throughout the day and it also sends you notifications when to have more water which has really helped me because I simply just forget to have water even when it is so simple. I have really seen an improvement in my skin since drinking so much water, it leaves my skin looking clearer and it has helped to clear up some of my spots and it has also left my skin looking a lot more healthier and radiant which has really helped with my confidence and whenever I see my skin now, it makes me feel so much more happier. Before every meal, I will have at least a glass of water because sometimes we can mistake thirst for hunger so I just make sure I’m actually hungry instead of eating the extra food.
4. Exercise more-
I’m not one to go to the gym every day and work out because honestly I can’t be bothered or I simply just don’t have the time to do so. Recently I’ve been starting to go to the gym at least 3 times a week and spending at least 1 hour there at a time, but on alternate days, I will spend an hour going for a long walk and making sure I do at least 10,000 steps each day, getting fresh air really improves my mood and if I’m ever stressed, it helps me to clear my mind and I will normally walk to my local park which is only 15 minutes away and go around there a few times.
5. Deal with your stress/Meditate-
Being a university student is pretty stressful and can get to me at the best of times but when I start to get stressed, I like to take out at least 20 minutes out of doing work and take some time to myself and de-stress myself. I will normally meditate for around 15 minutes and I will use the “calm” app, this is perfect for anyone looking to calm down and this app is really useful if you have no idea what you are doing (which is me ahaha) there are so many exercises for anything you are feeling and since I have anxiety, I can work myself up over the simplest things so I will use the anxiety exercise to calm myself down and it really helps keep me in control of my anxiety!! Normally when I am doing work, I will listen to slow soothing music just so it keeps me calm and it helps me to work better and clears my mind which always helps me to feel 100% happier because what’s a better feeling than being stress free???
6. Keep a planner/Diary-
If your ever feeling stressed and overwhelmed with the amount of stuff you have to do in a day, I find it so useful to just keep a diary and jot down all the things I have to do in a day at the very start of the day before I get up out of bed. This just gives me a clear mind set of what I have to do that day and helps me to get straight into doing them. At the start of every morning, I will do all the tasks which will only take me around 5 minutes so that their out the way and I don’t have to worry about them for the rest of the day. I don’t normally complete all the tasks that I set for that day so I normally move them onto the next day but if I do complete all of them, I do try to treat myself because that is always important.
7. Treat yourself and love yourself-
I think the most important thing to do in life is to treat yourself whenever you get the chance to and to love yourself which may sound easier said than done but thrust me, when you do decide to love yourself, you will so much more happier and healthier and that is so important because you are all so beautiful!! Normally, when I get a good grade in my exams and my assignments, I will decide to treat myself to a new piece of clothing or to get a new makeup product because this always makes me feel so much more happier and helps me to feel proud of myself. It is always important to love yourself, at any chance I get, I like to spend time doing my makeup and hair and wearing something nice because this gives me so much more self confidence and that feels sooo good. So remember, always love yourself!!!
