Hey everyone, I hope you’re all doing well and welcome to my blog or welcome back to my blog. Today I am going to be telling you the ultimate guide of what to pack for university because I’m guilty of packing way too much last year, I already have 2 blog posts up from this week based off university also so if you’d like to check them out first that would be amazing. I really hope this helps and you enjoy, if you do, make sure to give this a like and also a comment if you have any questions. If you’d like to see more from me, give my blog a follow for more.
I remember this time last year I was frantically looking for lists of things I definitely needed for university and I was eager to find some blog posts that answered all these questions for me which is why I started this series in the first place. As I luckily had an en-suite room which I loved, I had so many places to think about so today, I am going to put together a list of things you’re going to need for each part of your room and kitchen whether you have en-suite or not.
The bed area-
Duvet & Pillows and duvet cover
You have to remember that your room isn’t going to be massive and your bed is going to be the biggest sight for attention in the whole room so you should make it nice as possible and as cosy as possible because you are going to spend a lot of time in this room. Buy a thick duvet cover and most university dorms you will only need to buy a single duvet but if your lucky enough to have a bigger bed, that’s perfect, just check with the university before, also get a cute duvet cover that will go with the interior of your room, I picked white because it was simple but it really helped to brighten up my room and make it look cosy.
A throw and cushions
There’s nothing that makes a bed comfier than some throws and cushions, I’m not going to lie but I went a bit overboard when it came to purchasing throws and cushions because I ended up having 3 throws and 4 cushions haha but their a really good item for when it starts to get colder because your rooms aren’t going to keep all the cold out and if like me, the heater didn’t work for half the year so these throws came in very handy.
The reality of a university dorm room is that people have stayed in your accommodation before you so they have also slept in the same bed as you for the past year so I would definitely recommend purchasing a mattress protector, it will make it more hyginic and it will save the stress of someone else’s germs being on your bed because you never know what they’ve done in that bed.
Under-bed storage boxes
These can be really useful for people who have brought far too much clothes to university and want to store their winter or summer clothes in because they won’t need to be in the wardrobe. These are really good for things you have no where to put them because then they won’t be all over the place which is really good in a small room.
Desk and Wardrobe area-
There’s nothing better than dividing up all your work so it is all organised.
If your accommodation is going to be anything like mine, there wasn’t much lighting in the room and when it went dark, I wouldn’t be able to see much so it is a good idea to get a desk lamp for them nights your staying up late trying to get your assignments done for the next day which I wouldn’t recommend.
These are really good for keeping your clothes from being creased and it is also a really good way of organising your clothing.
I would recommend getting a laundry basket because there’s nothing worse than having all your washing all over the place and it makes it so much easier to carry your laundry down to the washing places or if your going to be anything like me, waiting till you go home and getting your family to do it for you because it’s rather expensive.
This makes it so much easier to organise all your shampoo’s and conditioners and all your washing stuff and it being organised because there’s nothing worse than it being all over the bathroom.
This one may sound obvious but I can remember the amount of people who forgot towels. I would recommend getting multiple sizes of towels because they will always come in handy. Also I would recommend purchasing two big towels for when you’ve used your towel a couple of times and it saves you from washing your towels repeatedly.
Toothbrush and Tooth paste holder
These are really helpful for stopping your toothbrush from becoming contaminated and disgusting.
This stops the floor from getting soaked when you’ve just got out the shower, I remember when I first arrived at university and this guy forgot to use the shower curtain I don’t know why and then all the water soaked through to the downstairs flat.
The one thing I needed to change immediately was the shower curtain, it was so plain and it just made my bathroom look dull so I changed it up straight away and it made it look so much better.
Cutlery set inc plates and bowls and cups
This may seem dumb to put on the list but it’s a must, another good tip is to get some that are different colours because you may have to put your cutlery with other peoples so having them distinctive makes it so much easier.
This is something that may not apply to everyone but if your really interested in keeping up your health and your guilty of leaving your fruit and veg before they go out of date, making a smootie is the perfect way of not wasting your money and getting all the nutrients you would get from the fruit and veg.
Trays, saucepan and frying pan
Having a few of each is perfect if your like me and you leave washing up till last minute so you have some spare for whenever else your going to cook.
Scissors and sharp knifes
Washing up stuff
2 notebooks, 1 with divider’s
Having 2 notebooks can be really helpful for dividing your lecture notes and making a hard copy of the notes because I can bet your lecture notes are going to be so messy you won’t be able to read them in a few months so its a good idea to make a hard neat copy making it easier to revise.
A set of pens
This is pretty straight forward, you need something to write with.
Only some people like to highlight their work but it makes it really helpful at revising and highlighting the most important thing.
Planning is a really good way of managing time and remembering everything you need to do because trust me, you do so much more at university than you may think.
Laptop and maybe a printer
A laptop is a really important thing that you will definitely need for university because you have to write all your assignments online and you can also type up your notes making it quick and easier to revise.
Important Documents (id recommend putting all these into a folder)-
Passport/ Drivers Licence, form of ID
Medical documents- eye test, doctors
National Insurance Number
NCS card for all those discounts
Bank account details
Discount travel card- rail card with Santander and coach with Natwest
These are all the things you will need to take to university, it may seem like a lot but trust me when its all in the rooms, it will look like nothing.
