What Does Travelling Mean To Me?

I was in a bit of a rut the other day and wasn’t sure what to post so I made a lil mind map and thought of this idea. Travelling is a huge part of my life, if I got a pound for every time I check the Skyscanner.com, let’s just say I would be a millionaire. So what does Travelling really mean to me?

Trying to answer this question was definitely much harder than I first thought, I feel a lot of emotion towards travelling and I’m not quite sure how I can possibly put it into words. I thought I’d put this into multiple sections because if not, I will probably go on and ramble and that’s something both me and you wouldn’t want to read.

When did I know I wanted to see the world?

I’ve talked about this very vaguely on my blog before so some of you may know that I only got my first passport last July which was very long awaited. I would say I’m the only one in my family who has the growing desire to travel which is why my family have never been on a holiday abroad, which explains why I haven’t. When I was around 11, I got the interest in researching new places and I’d do a lot of research on the different countries. When I was around 13, I discovered Asia, obviously I knew it existed but I didn’t exactly know in’s and out’s if you know what I mean? I fell in loveeee with Japan and spend ages every evening researching the culture and looking at flights etc and I think that was the exact point where it hit me that I hadn’t had the chance to see the world and knew I would make it my mission to one day see the world. At this point, I’d only ever been to Wales.

Am I sad that I’d never been abroad as a child?

tbh, no, I’m not. I don’t think I would have the motivation and love for travelling if I had. I have learnt so much about myself while travelling and I definitely wouldn’t have it any other way. Experiencing my first flight definitely taught me a lot, I remember feeling so mindblown and overwhelmed when I landed somewhere that wasn’t the UK and it has got to be one of my favourite moments to date. I was also able to experience my first trip with my amazing boyfriend which did make it so much better!

So, Why do you Travel?

Probably the main reason why I travel is because I want to see the world and every country is different and I love being able to learn and experience another culture. I also love that there are so many different things to see when you visit another country and they all have there own history which I love investing time into learning.

Another main reason I travel is because it gives me meaning and it has given me a sense of myself. Even though I have only travelled for 8 months, I have learnt so much about myself and I have learned about my desires and dreams which keep me going when I am having a bad day.

I think another main reason is because I push myself out of my comfort zone and I challenge myself! I am currently planning my first solo travel which will be difficult but I will be so proud of myself once I have completed it. I rarely do anything that is out of my comfort zone so travelling gives me that push and opportunity to do so.

Has travelling changed me?

100% yes. Travelling has definitely changed me for the better, I definitely have a wider perspective for the future and like I previously said, travelling has taught me so much about myself which I knew it would. I have also gained so much knowledge from travelling and I find that so important! I have definitely been in dark places within some parts of my life and travelling really does give me the motivation to carry on and see the world!

What are my current travel plans?

The other day me and my boyfriend booked a trip to Copenhagen with a day trip to Malmo in between for the start of July which I’m really excited about! It’s my birthday as well in July so I’d love to take a little trip somewhere to celebrate. I have also been planning my first solo trip for August, I’m thinking of going to Paris which is super exciting, it’s just whether I have the balls to do it! I do have some additional plans for later on in the year which are not set in stone, 2019 has definitely been my year for travelling and that makes me the happiest person ever!

I think that is everything! If you have any more questions you’d like me to answer, please ask in the comments! Also, if you’d like to see more content from me, please follow and like this post!

Thank you for reading,

  1. Great post! I’ve also never been abroad as a child.. my first flight was three years ago, at 22, my first time abroad when i was 16, with my family. Compared to my other friends, it was extremely late but i am grateful that I was able to process it and fully enjoy it.
Travelling, for me, it’s a way of learning, growing as a person and human, a way of knowing my planet, the people i share it with. Of course expensive trips are cool, spending time on the beach or shopping on high end streets is awesome, but I spend most of my travelling time with locals in places where tourists don’t usually go and asking people about their lives, traditions, culture… I actually feel my soul growing inside when I am among people so different than me but who accept me and teach me their ways 🙂

  3. I love travelling! My family never really took us abroad, only to Disney land Paris twice but yeah since then I have been to a few different places and I am going to America this year! I would love to travel more and to every different place though. Japan and Canada are top places for me to visit 😬 love this! I am always looking for tips though on how to get the cheapest and best deals 🙈 x
