Why I’ve Decided Not to Do Blogtober and Blogmas this Year

Something that comes up in the Blogging world when it comes to October and December is Blogtober and Blogmas. If you’ve never heard of these before, Blogtober is where you blog everyday in October and your posts are focused on Halloween and Autumn, Blogmas is where you blog everyday from the 1st December to the 25th December and posts are focused on Christmas. Last year I actually completed Blogmas on my blog and it was definitely an achievement to say the least. I can’t believe I am already drafting Autumn and Christmas content, the year has literally flown by. This year I’ve decided that I’m not going to do Blogtober and Blogmas and here is why.

When it comes to writing content for my blog, I love it to be in the moment and that way, I really enjoy writing and creating content. When it comes to Blogtober and Blogmas, you have to come up with 25-30 blog post ideas and write them all in a short space of time and that can be quite difficult when you have other responsibilities. I fully respect every single person who is able to complete either of these and I will be fully supporting everyone who are going to take part in either of these. I have really enjoyed reading some Blogtober posts so far and I can’t wait to read more throughout the month.

To what I said earlier, you have to think of 25-30 blog posts in a short space of time which can be quite difficult and from my experience of Blogmas 2018, sometimes I was writing posts about things I wasn’t entirely passionate about just to get a post up and that’s never been something I’ve wanted to do in my Blogging career. That is probably the prime reason I’m not going to be taking part in either of these ‘events’. I really want to keep my content interesting and personal to me!

Of course I am also in my third year at university so I definitely have priorities so I want to focus on finishing my third year at university with a really good grade and spend my spare time creating Autumn and Christmas content that I love!

So as I’m not doing Blogtober or Blogmas does that mean I’m not going to be uploading Autumn/Halloween and Christmas content? Of course not. I have been working really hard at the moment at planning some blog post ideas and getting some drafted for this time period. Halloween and Christmas are both one of my favorite times of year and I really hope that shines through with my blog posts for the remainder of the year. I have been planning some gift guides again for this year because they went down really well last year and I also have some really exciting blog posts coming up. I think I am going to start uploading Christmas content towards the end of November and until then, I am going to focus on Autumn and Halloween content.

In terms of my Instagram, my plans for the rest of October till mid November is to upload as much Autumn content as I can and I really want to experiment with my style and my flatlay’s. I have been planning some Christmas themed content to start near the end of November. I’m also going to be visiting some Christmas markets around the Christmas period so I will definitely share my experience while I’m there!

I also really want to attend some events, especially this time of year! I have been invited to a couple that are going to be happening in November time so I am really excited about those and obviously I am going to be documenting my experience on my Instagram stories and on here!

  1. I came to the same conclusion about Blogmas after doing it for the last two years. Part of me was a bit sad, because I did enjoy it, but I didn’t like the stress of having to get something up when I wasn’t feeling in the mood for writing. The other big thing for me is that I was working really hard on content, but just before Christmas nobody has much time. So it felt like the content was disappearing into a vacuum where nobody would see it. I plan to do the same as you – still create content, but without the daily pressure.
